The Gut Glow-Up: 11 Steps to Better Digestion, Clearer Skin, and More Confidence

Feeling bloated, tired, or just off? It’s not just what you’re eating—it’s how your gut is handling it. Your digestion impacts everything: your mood, skin, hormones, and that inner glow. These 11 tips are gentle, powerful habits I use myself and share with my clients. (And yes, I have to remind myself too, because we’re human, not perfect.) No fads here, just real steps to help you feel calmer, clearer, and more confident in your body. You deserve to feel good, let’s start with your gut.

1. Chew your food like your glow depends on it (because it kinda does)
Most of us eat way too fast (guilty), which can lead to bloating and fatigue. Try chewing each bite 30–40 times. It gives your gut a head start and helps your body absorb more nutrients. Tip: Put your fork down between bites. Make eating a little ritual—light a candle, play soft music, be present. You deserve that moment.

2. Stop drinking water during meals
I know, this one surprised me too. Drinking lots of water, especially cold water, while eating can dilute your digestive enzymes. Instead, hydrate 30 mins before or after meals. Need something with your food? Sip warm herbal tea. It soothes digestion and feels super cozy.

3. Ditch the constant snacking
Your gut needs breaks between meals to reset and clean itself out. Constant grazing can mess with that natural rhythm. Aim for 2–3 solid, nourishing meals a day. And stay hydrated with electrolytes in your water! I love Humantra for when I’m in Dubai, and Noordcode for when I’m in Europe. Game-changer.

4. Walk after each meal
A 5–10 minute walk can work wonders for digestion and blood sugar balance. Plus, it’s a chance to clear your head and get a little sunshine or rain hehe. I usually pop in a podcast—The Skinny Confidential is my current fave.

5. Do a mini reset: no gluten, dairy, or sugar for 5 days
This isn’t about restriction, it’s about awareness. When you cut out the major gut disruptors, even for a few days, you start to really feel the difference.
Your skin clears. Your tummy calms. You reconnect with your body’s signals. It’s powerful.

6. Switch to warm, cooked meals in the evening
I used to think salads for dinner were the healthy choice—but nope. Raw food can be tough on digestion, especially at night.
Now, after 2 pm, I stick to warm, grounding meals. It helps me feel nourished and sleep better, too. Try it!

7. Lift some weights at least 2-3x per week
Strength training 2–3x a week improves insulin sensitivity, reduces inflammation, and supports hormones, aka, better gut health. Plus, it makes you feel strong inside and out. I’m obsessed with the FORM app. I have been using it before my pregnancy and have been doing it ever since. Use code LOUISA20 for 20% off a yearly membership if you want to try it.

8. Add creatine + colostrum to your wellness toolkit
Creatine helps with brain clarity, energy production, and muscle recovery—without upsetting the gut. Colostrum is a powerhouse for gut lining repair, immunity, and reducing inflammation. Choose clean, high-quality sources. These work beautifully when paired with whole foods and movement. I love the brand ARMRA.

9. Breathe and relax before eating
Stress = poor digestion. Even just 3 deep breaths before eating can flip the switch into “rest and digest” mode. Put your phone down. Be with your food. I know it’s hard in our go-go world, but I promise, it shifts everything. Tell this to my husband, please :).

10. Start your mornings with tongue scraping
It sounds a little crunchy, but I swear by it. Tongue scraping removes overnight toxins. Then I follow it up with a splash of apple cider vinegar in water. It’s such a clean way to start the day.

11. Tape your mouth at night (yes, really!)
Mouth breathing while you sleep = stress mode, poor sleep, and gut issues. Mouth tape helps you breathe through your nose, which supports healing, better rest, and digestion. I use the Skinny Confidential mouth tape every single night. It’s a little weird at first, but now my husband and I can’t sleep without it.

A healthy gut is the secret to more than digestion; it’s key to glowing skin, steady energy, and mental clarity. The more you care for it, the better everything else flows. Start with just one of these tips this week. Build slowly. Stay consistent. You don’t need to overhaul your life overnight; you just need to treat your gut like it matters. Because it does.
